Meet the Blogger
HI, I'M TIFFANY!
Hi, I’m Tiffany… unapologetically obsessed with books. This blog is my personal reading journal where I track the books I read, the ones I buy (maybe too often), and everything in between. Think of it as a bookish diary. If you love stories, shelves full of TBRs, and honest thoughts on all things bookish, you’re in the right place. Let’s be book friends!

Synopsis:
He was the first person to inspire her, to move her, to truly understand her. Was he meant to be the last?

Lucy is faced with a life-altering choice. But before she can make her decision, she must start her story—their story—at the very beginning.

Lucy and Gabe meet as seniors at Columbia University on a day that changes both of their lives forever. Together, they decide they want their lives to mean something, to matter. When they meet again a year later, it seems fated—perhaps they’ll find life’s meaning in each other. But then Gabe becomes a photojournalist assigned to the Middle East and Lucy pursues a career in New York. What follows is a thirteen-year journey of dreams, desires, jealousies, betrayals, and, ultimately, of love. Was it fate that brought them together? Is it choice that has kept them away? Their journey takes Lucy and Gabe continents apart, but never out of each other’s hearts.

My Review

Boy, I did not like this book. This book has honestly been on my shelves since it was released back in 2017. It honestly should have stayed there.

I have read books previously by Jill Santopolo and felt moved by them, they even made me cry. Not this one. Which makes me sad because it has such a beautiful cover.

The Light We Lost follows Lucy. Well actually, it’s Lucy telling a story to Gabe. So it’s in third person, another thing I didn’t enjoy about this book. She’s telling Gabe about her life when she meets him and after him.

Lucy and Gabe dated for a little bit before Gabe decides to travel internationally for his career. Their relationship ends up fading away.

Lucy is a terrible person. I’m just gonna throw that out there. After Gabe, she meets Darren.

Yes, Darren is no Gabe but she doesn’t even try. She only does what she thinks she should do. She never converses with him. She just gets herself mad when he decides to surprise her because she wants to be involved in every single decision made in their relationship.

Darren deserved more than her. She’s awful and so is Gabe for constantly trying to reinsert himself in her life when he knows she is married and has children.

I honestly can’t stand books like this. If you’re unhappy, do something about it. It’s not like Darren was abusive and she was scared of leaving him. She was just worried about what everyone else thought of her.

I’m also super pissed at the ending. I wanted to see Lucy facing the consequences of her poor actions. She was not fair to Darren one bit and she needs to see that.

I wanted so much more from this book. So much more.

Unfortunately, it did not deliver.
