My Review
This book had all the elements that would normally make me completely obsessed with a dark romance. The plot itself wasn’t necessarily the problem, I think my biggest issue came down to the characters.
I also have to admit that I don’t really associate hockey with dark romance, and I think that affected my overall feelings about the book. (Thank you, Heated Rivalry, for completely ruining all other hockey books for me!) š I think this story could have worked just as well without the hockey elements. Those parts felt a little distracting and took away from the darker aspects of the plot that I was more interested in.
Beautiful Venom follows Dahlia, who is determined to infiltrate a secret society to uncover what happened to her foster sister. Along the way, she catches the attention of Kane, a broody and dangerous man who agrees to help her gain entry into the society, but only on his terms.
Honestly, I think my biggest struggle was that the main characters felt a little too young for me. I never really connected with either of them the way I wanted to, and I think that made it harder for me to become invested in their relationship.
That being said, I’m still planning on continuing the series. I think I just need to take a little break from Rina Kent’s books so I can come back to the next one with a fresh perspective. Sometimes you just need a little palate cleanser before diving back into an author’s books!
